Russia National Team EURO 2021 – All Important Information

The Russia National Team is ready for this year’s major tournament to, once again, show their amazing skills on the field, as they did in the 2018 World Cup on home soil. Three years ago, Russia managed to get to the quarter-final, where they lost to Croatia.

That World Cup was the first time since 1986 for the Russia National Team to get beyond the group stages. It was also the first time for them to reach quarter-finals in any major tournament since the Euro 2008 Championship.

Although they were spectacular on the field at the previous World Cup, the question is can this team manage to overcome powerful opponents from the group such as Belgium, Denmark, and Finland?

Read all about their football manager, get to know their possible lineup, what is the full squad, who are the key players, etc.

Football Manager of the Russia National Team

Stanislav Cherchesov is the former football player and the manager of the Russia National Team. He’s known as the former goalkeeper for the USSR and Russia, playing for the major teams such as Spartak Moscow, Lokomotiv Moscow, Dynamo Dresden, etc.

Before becoming the official manager of the Russia National Team in 2016, Cherchesov managed Kufstein, Wacker Tirol, Spartak Moscow, Zhemchuzhina Sochi, Terek Grozny, Amkar Perm, Dynamo Moscow, and Legia Warsaw.

Two years after signing for the national team, at the 2018 World Cup, Russia reached the quarterfinals for the first time since 1970, which was a huge success for the whole country. It’s clear that the first foal of Cherchesov is to get to the knockout stages and to make the whole country proud.

He is hoping that the team will get highly motivated and give their best on the field, since two of their three upcoming matches will take place at St Petersburg.

The possible lineup of the Russia Squad could look like this: Shunin on the goal, Fernandes, Dzhikiya, Diveev, Zhirkov in the back, Zobnin Golovin, Barbinov and Cheryshev in the midfield, and Marakov and Dzyuba on the front.

The Key Player of the Russia National Team

Artem Dzyuba is the striker for FC Zenit St Petersburg and the Russia National Team. He debuted in 2006, making 166 appearances and scoring 38 goals so far. He’s been playing for the national team since 2011.

Dzyuba represented his country both at UEFA Euro 2016 and 2018 World Cup, where he wrote his name into Russian football folklore scoring against Saudi Arabia, Egypt, and Spain. Another reason why Artem Dzyuba is one of the most important players of his team is because he managed to score 13 goals across Nations League, EURO Championship qualifications and World Cup.

In Zenit St Petersburg he is considered to be the most mobile and prolific player who has the incredible ability to hold up possession, making him one of the best football players in the history of Russian football. Although 32-years-old, Dzyuba is a monster on the field, looking forward to scoring as many goals as possible at this major, upcoming tournament.

Besides Artem Dzyuba, we can say a lot about Aleksandr Golovin, the attacking midfielder for Ligue 1 Club Monaco and the Russia National Team. Golovin managed to notch a goal and make two assists at the 2018 World Cup. Since then he’s considered one of the best Russian football players.
