Sweden National Team EURO 2021 – All Important Information

The Sweden National Team is ready for this year’s European Championship. Their main goal is to, at least, make it to the knockout rounds at this major tournament. It’s known that Sweden is the team that simply has to win. Sweden managed to finish in second place in their EURO 2020 qualifying group, where Spain took first place.

Despite the fact that their most valuable player, Zlatan Ibrahimovic, will be absent due to injury, they are hoping to make a major success this year. After all, they finished second in their qualifying group without his help.

Their biggest success at European Championship was in 1992 when they managed to reach the semi-finals. Two years after that, at the World Cup, the Sweden National Team finished third.

What can we expect from this team? Is there a chance that they will progress from the group stages for the first time after 2004? Let’s see all the important information about their football manager, the possible lineup, their keyplayer, tactics, form, full squad, and the schedule of their upcoming matches.

Football Manager of the Sweden National Team

Janne Andersson is a former football player and the manager of the Sweden National Team. He took charge of the national team after the European Championship in 2016. Since 1988 he has managed teams such as Alets K, Halmstads BK, Laholms, Örgryte IS, and IFK Norrköping, before becoming the official manager of the Sweden National Team.

After guiding FK Norrköping to their 1st Allsvenskan title since 1992 in 2015, Andersson got the job to manage the National Team in 2016. His biggest success with the team so far was at the 2018 World Cup when Sweden topped their group which included Germany, South Korea, and Mexico. They slipped by Switzerland and fell at the quarter-finals to the England National Team.

Andersson was named the Coach of the year at the 2019 Swedish Sports Awards. Sweden expects him, at least, to lead his team to the knockout rounds.

Here is the possible lineup for the Sweden National Team squad: Johnson on the goal, Jansson, Lindelöf, Krafth, and Augustinsson will be on the defensive line. In the midfield, we can expect to see Olsson, Larsson, Forsberg, and Kulusevski, while Quaison and Isak will be in charge of the attack.

The Key Player of the Sweden National Team

Even though Zlatan Ibrahimovic is considered to be the best one of the whole squad, he will miss the tournament due to injury. However, Sweden Squad has a lot of quality players that could be lethal on the field for the opponents.

The striker Alexander Isak is one of the most dynamic attacking forces this season, not just in the national team, but also in La Liga. He plays as a forward for Real Sociedad and Sweden National Team. Isak has managed to score 16 goals in 33 appearances so far. Since January 2020, this 21-year-old striker has scored 2 international goals in 8 caps. He’s the strongest link of the squad and the one who can decide the fate of his team.

Besides Isak, the 21-year-old midfielder Dejan Kulusevski has been so impressive during the last several seasons, that he got a call to join Juventus in 2020 where he proved to be one of the most thrilling forces who has the perfect combination of great balance, pace, and skill.

Tactics & Form of the Sweden National Team for the EURO 2021

What tactics Janne Andersson will use, is yet to be seen. So far, he was playing a classic 4-4-2. We suppose he will stick to this system, in the upcoming clashies of the EURO 2021 tournament. The form of the Sweden National Team this season has been very good, since they finished second in their qualification group.

Nevertheless, after Ibrahimovic left the squad due to injury, Sweden struggled in the Nations League, winning just 2 times in 2020. However, at the start of 2021, they managed to achieve 3 straight wins which was a good kick-start for the World Cup qualifying campaign.
