Football Manager of the Belgium National Team

Roberto Martinez, a former Spanish football player and coach, is the football manager of the Belgium National Team. During his playing career, he played as a defensive midfielder. At the beginning of his career with Real Zaragoza, he won the Copa del Rey. Besides Zaragoza, Martinez has also played for Balaguer, Wigan Athletic, Motherwell, Walsall, Swansea City and Chester City.

As a football manager, so far he has managed Swansea City from 2007 until 2009, Wigan Athletic from 2009 until 2013, Everton from 2013 until 2016, to become the official manager of the Belgium National Team in 2016.

At Everton, he has managed to develop a strong relationship with Romelu Lukaku, making him one of Belgium’s most valuable, top-class forwards. In August 2016, he became the head coach of the Belgium National Team. At the 2018 FIFA World Cup, Roberto Martinez led the Belgium Squad to the third place which is, so far, their best-ever position at this tournament.

Under his management, in September 2018, Belgium came to the first place in FIFA World Rankings, until February 2021.

When it comes to the possible lineup of the Belgium National Team for the upcoming tournament, we can expect to see Courtois on the goal, Alderweireld, Denayer, and Vertonghen on defense, Witsel, Hazard, Tielemans, and Meunier in the midfield. In the front line, we can expect to see the famous forwards: Hazard, De Bruyne, and Lukaku.

The Key Player of the Belgium National Team

Even though it’s a squad full of talented players, perhaps the best one so far is Kevin De Bruyne. At the moment, De Bruyne plays as the midfielder for Premier League club Manchester City and the Belgium National Team. He’s right-footed but possesses a fantastic shooting technique in his left foot.

Robert Lukaku, the current striker for Serie A club Inter Milan and the Belgium National Team, is also one of the key figures of his team. He’s famous for leading his team to a third-place finish in the 2018 World Cup. He then became the second-highest goalscorer and the winner of the Bronze Boot.

What is also interesting about Lukaku is that, during his debut Inter season he managed to break Ronaldo’s scoring record and helped Inter Milan to win the league title. With the help of de Bruyne, it is more than likely for Belgium to find their way to win the EURO 2020 title this year.
