Russian EURO 2021 Squad
The Russian Selector, Stanislav Cherchesov, is counting on a good part of the team from the World Cup from three years ago, with some new faces as well as without some very famous faces.
Miranchuk and Dzagoev won’t be a part of the Russia National Team for EURO 2021, which didn’t come as a big surprise, since they haven’t played for their country in the last 1,5 years. Despite that, they’re still in good form and they haven’t finished their careers yet.
It was a bit surprising considering that they weren’t even on the wider list, especially for a 25-year-old Miranchuk who has managed to score 7 goals and assists this season, under the command of Marko Nikolić in Lokomotiv. On the other side, Dzagoev has been on the field for only 1000 minutes this season, and perhaps that was the reason to exclude him from the list.
We also won’t see the legendary goalkeeper Igor Akinfejev and Sergej Ignasevic, since they said goodbye to the National team after the World Cup in 2018. However, the coach of Russia, Stanislav Cherchesov, is still counting on a good part of the team from the last big competition, with several new faces.
The main force of the National Team will be the duo from Serie A, Alexei Miranchuk – Alexander Golovin, along with the excellent Alexander Golovin from Monaco, and Denis Cherishev and the indestructible Artyom Juba, who is slowly entering the most mature football years.
The most experienced kayla of this team will be Yuri Zhirkov is the most experienced player this season and we can clearly say that his years can definitely do nothing to disrupt his performance on the field. Although he didn’t manage to collect even 1,000 minutes at Zenit this season, the man who will turn 38 in August has gained the trust of the selector who sees him as the “glue” of this team.
The super-talented goalkeeper Matvey Safonov has caught the attention of the Russian public. Many people see him as the legitimate successor of Igor Akinfeev.
But, let’s wait until June 1 and see who will make it to the final list.
Russia will play its first match on June 12 against Belgium. The Russians are still in the group with Denmark and Finland.
