Poland – National Team EURO 2021 – All Important Information

The Poland National Team is ready to finally do some magic at the EURO 2021 Championship and to go beyond the quarter-finals for the first time at this tournament. However they achieved the greatest success in international competition finishing third at World Cups in 1974 and 1982.

At EURO 2016, Poland only made it to the last eight, losing against Portugal. They came up short on penalties. Can Poland make a splash at this major international championship? Is there any chance for this squad to reach beyond their biggest achievement at this championship and that is to, at least, reach the semi-finals?

Get to know the full information about the football manager, full squad, possible lineup, tactics, form, etc.

Football Manager of the Poland National Team

Paulo Sousa is the former football player, Portugese football manager, and the current heading coach of the Poland National Team. He’s best known as the member of the famous “Golden Generation” of the Portugese football and when he appeared at the 2002 World Cup with his National Team and 2 European Championships.

He became football manager in 2005, managing Portugal u16 team, then Queens Park Rangers, Swansea City, Leicester City, Videoton, Maccabi Tel Aviv, Basel, Fiorentina Tianjin Quanjian, Bordeaux, and Poland National Team in 2021.

Although Herzy Brzeczek led Poland to qualify for the EURO 2020, he was replaced by Paulo Sousa due to an ‘underwhelming performance in the Nations League’. Sousa’s biggest achievement as a coach so far was winning a title with Maccabi Tel Aviv and Basel.

Although his last trophy was from the 2015 Swiss League, he’s completely determined to make the best possible result with his team this summer and, according to his experience, we hope he’ll do so!

Poland Possible Lineup for the European Championship

For those who were wondering what the possible lineup for the European Championship could look like, here is our prediction: Szczęsny on the goal, Glik,  Bereszyński, Bednarek, and Rybus on defense. In the midfield we can expect to see Moder, Klich, Krychowiak, and Zieliński, while Lewandowski and Kownacki will be in charge for the attack.

The Key Player of the Poland National Team

One of the most important football players is, without any doubt, Robert Lewandowski, striker for Bundesliga club Bayern Munich and Poland National Team. Lewandowski has scored over 500 senior career goals for his club and his country, in other words, a record appearance-maker and goalscorer. In 2020, he was voted as the FIFA’s Best Men’s Player.

What is interesting about Lewandowski is the fact that he won Polish Footballer of the Year 9 times in the previous ten years, so it’s no no wonder why he’s considered one of the most important players of the squad.

Besides Lewandowski, Jan Bednarek is the main guy at the back of the field. Defender of the Poland National Team and the centre-back for Premier League club Southampton.

He’s famous for scoring the first goal for his national team at the World Cup in 2018, when Poland defeated Japan with the result 1-0. Bednarek is known as an experienced and powerful player who is an aerial threat for the opponents at the opposite end of the football field.

Tactics & Form of the Poland National Team for the EURO 2021

Another major question is, what tactics will Sousa use for his team? Although it’s not an easy task to predict Sousa’s potential approach for the Poland Squad in the upcoming matches, we assume he’ll go with the same system that Brzeczek has used in the past and it is the 4-2-3-1 formation.

During their qualifying campaign, the Poland National Team did an amazing job, which is partly due to the easy group. They have managed to win 4 straight games, lose 1, draw 1, and then rebounded winning the remaining matches which secured them a place at this year’s European Championship.

It remains to be seen whether Sosa will be able to continue this success with the team as his predecessor did.
