What is Baccarat?

Baccarat is a card game that is very popular in casinos. It is straightforward to learn and it is possible to play it by up to 14 players or solo.

In each game of baccarat, there are only three outcomes. Either the player wins, the banker wins or it’s a draw. Each person has the choice of whether to back the player or the banker’s hand.

When betting, you are simply backing either side A or side B, don’t confuse yourself by the names of ‘player’ and ‘banker’.

There are several versions of baccarat. We are going to explain each of it, and its rules, in case you really want to learn to play Baccarat like a PRO.

Aim of the Game – Learn to Play Baccarat

Your goal is to bet on the pair of cards that are closest to 9 in total.

The Scoring System

A = 1

2-9 retain their face value

10, J, Q, K = 0

  • The two cards on the table combine to give a hand’s total value.
  • Example:
  • Player 3 + 4 = 7
  • Banker 8 + Q = 8
  • In this example, the banker has the winning hand as they are closest to 9.
  • If the two cards add up to more than 9, you drop the first digit.
  • Eg. 6 + 8 = 14, drop the 1, that hand is worth 4.

Learn to Play Baccarat with this Step by Step Guide

  1. Step 1 – Set Up

There is very little set up for baccarat. All you’ll need to play is a deck of cards, some chips. A scoresheet is optional.
Divide all chips evenly between players and scoresheet if you wish to keep track. Assign someone to be the banker – they will deal with the cards throughout the game.

  2. Step 2 – Placing a Bet

Each player can place a bet on one of three options – the player, the banker or a tie. Bets can be as small or large as the player wants.

  3. Step 3 – Drawing the Cards

Once everyone has placed their bets, the banker draws two cards for the player and two cards for the banker. The set that is closest to 9 is the winning hand.

  4. Step 4 – Winnings

All bets are 1:1 for the player and the banker, meaning you double your money if you win. The banker’s hand pays 95% in casinos.
Bets on ties pay out at 8:1. Any bets on losing outcomes are lost. In some versions, losing bets on the player or the banker are returned in the event of a tie.
