Austria – National Team EURO 2021 – All Important Information

Austria has a lot of motivation to give its maximum in the upcoming tournament. They will take part in consecutive European Championships for the first time in the nation’s history. Back in 2008, Austria made their debut appearance in the tournament, and have managed to qualify for the Euro 2016. This will be their third time to take part in the UEFA European Championship.

After losing the 2 opening games in the qualification campaign, the Austria National Team have managed to secure second in Group G, after 6 wins, including a clean sheet against the Poland National Team. They will play in Group C at EURO 2021 tournament, alongside Netherlands, Ukraine, and North Macedonia.

However, the big question is – can they progress to the knockout round for the first time ever? Let’s see all the important information about the team, tactics, their key player, the Football Manager of the Austria National Team, and the schedule of the upcoming matches.

Football Manager of the Austria National Team

The official football manager of the Austria National Team is Franco Foda. He is a German former player who has been a manager since 2001. He has managed Sturm Graz and 1. FC Kaiserslautern, before becoming the manager of the Austria National Team in 2018.

He’s famous for appearing in more than 400 top-flight matches across Germany, Austria, and Switzerland. Foda’s playing days produced a very successful career in Bundesliga, since he has played for Kaiserslautern, Bayer Leverkusen, and Stuttgart. He has also achieved international recognition, with 2 caps for West Germany under Franz Beckenbauer management.

Franco Foda has managed to guide the Austria National Team to League A promotion in the Nations League and achieved the EURO 2020 Championship qualification.

When it comes to the Austria Possible Lineup for this year’s championship, we can predict to see Schlager on the goal, Dragovic, Hinteregger, Alaba, and Lainer in the defense. In the midfield we will likely see Schlager, Schöpf, Sabitzer, and Ilsanker. Gregoritsch and Arnautovic will strike from the front line.

The Key Player of the Austria National Team

One of the best players of the Austria National Team at the moment is David Alaba, soon-to-be-former defender of the Bayern Munich team. He is considered to be the vital artery of his squad and the so-called ‘nation’s world-class factotum’.

So far, in the most recent matches, Alaba has played left-back on the wing and in defence. He was mostly utilised in the defensive midfield, on the wing, and at left-back. Another key player was Marcel Sabitzer, current midfielder for RB Leipzig in the Bundesliga. This season he has managed to occupy multiple roles on the field. He is known as an extremely talented and capable midfielder who is always in the mood to play on the front foot and never relents. We shouldn’t forget to mention Marko Arnautovic, the forward for the Chinese Super League club Shanghai Port, and former West-Ham player. He is known to be an extremely versatile player who provides the aggressive attack and was one of the main reasons for misfiring West Ham to new heights.

Also, Daniel Bachmann, the goalkeeper for Championship club Watford and the Austria National Team.

Tactics & Form of the Austria National Team for the EURO 2021

Everyone knows that Franco Foda likes to experiment with the back 3 in International Friendlies. However, it’s most likely that he will use the 4-2-3-1 system which turned out to be the perfect solution that provides a great balance of attacking rigour and defensive stability. We expect that Franco Foda will use this method.
